Si, se puede! Oh, how great this feels. Post-election tears feel so much better when they're of the joy variety. Only a few more months of the dumbest President in history. It was also great to see Liddy Dole's disgraceful campaign go down in flames in North Carolina.
Despite the joy over Obama's election there is a some sadness that bigotry still reigns supreme in much of our electorate. California's Prop. 8 looks like it's going to win and that is truly embarrassing. I thought our state was better than that. But, once again, Religion is used to falsely justify the fear and bigotry of the intolerant. As a kid I watched films of the civil rights movement and wondered how it was that so many "good" Americans could stand behind the fire hoses, as it were, and spew such vile hatred for a fellow human. Now, I've seen the same behavior up close and in person and I'm no less confused.
I still have hope that this will change in the near future. It will take some more education, some more patience and, perhaps, some help from the Supreme Court.
My wife and I feel that the only thing that "threatens" the sanctity of our marriage is the fact that the word "marriage" is now, in our eyes, sullied by its inherently discriminatory association.
We will continue to fight for equality for all Americans in any way we can. It's a fight well worth fighting. Can we prevail?
