How Could I Know?

Lyrics

I shouldn't have called you
I understand nothing at all
When you're on the line
Just wasting your time
My ego's decending
While you have the time of your life
It just isn't fair
You don't seem to care

I wouldn't have - I shouldn't have
Let myself go
I wouldn't have - I shouldn't have
How could I know?

You're feeling suspended
Do you feel anything at all
'cause I need the care
The springtime is bare
I'm feeling upended
Everything's turned upside down
It just isn't fair
You don't seem to care

All that I want is to stay
How could you leave me this way?

Miscellaneous Info

I really like this song. I think it's one of the best songs that Joe ever wrote. It was Roger's idea to double the acoustic part with a Nashville tuning and I think it served the song well.

When we would rehearse this song, I used to sing "I thought I saw - a putty tat" in the chorus to make Joe laugh. Or was it to piss him off? Not sure why I did it. But it seemed to make him laugh.
