I Hope I Die Before You Do

Lyrics

The little heads upon the kitchen table
They wait for their role in your latest fable and
I catch your eye and then we laugh until it hurts
The sign around his neck says "Hi, I'm Swedish"
"Send me to Omaha I speak no English", now
You are the only one who thinks it's funny, too

You're my favorite thing
Please forgive me when I sing that
I hope I die before you do
Because I'm no good without you
I hope I die before you do
Because I can't find another you

You and I don't need anything to believe in
We're each other's favorite miscellaneous heathen
And now I feel so vindicated by it all

Dying in my sleep or eaten by a lion
I don't know. Perhaps it's fine
If we go at the same time

Miscellaneous Info

The title comes from something I heard my wife say and the song is basically a twisted love song to her. The "little heads upon the kitchen table" refers to little clay heads Shelly had made while making our New Year's card.

The reference to the Swedish guy came from one of my Uncle John's Bathroom Readers. It was a story about the founder of Swanson's TV Dinners and how he came to America with a sign around his neck that said something like, "Hi, I'm Carl. Send me to Omaha. I speak no English."

I really like Gene's guitar solo on this one.
