It's Not My Place

Lyrics

It's your latest crusade
An endless parade
Of skeletons and bad decisions
Want to pull you aside
So I can confide
You're headed for a big collision

But I guess it's not my place
So I stand silent
On the floor that hits your face
The solution may seem clear
From over here
But I guess it's not my place

They've seen this one before
They're laughing no more
You're wearing out your invitation
Want to slap you around
And kill that sad clown
Who's made you such an irritation

You look like a trainwreck
Can't stop craning my neck

It's your latest charade
A lonesome parade
I can't prevent the next incision

Miscellaneous Info

As usual, I had the melody and the music for this song sitting around waiting for a lyric. Eugene Edwards gave me the title one night when we were playing a show together. (He didn't want to use it since he already had a song called "At Your Place"). I suggested that we write it together but I ended up finishing it up alone during a creative burst a couple of days later.

Chico came over and wrote the cello arrangement one afternoon and suggested adding the little 2-note guitar slide before the cello solo. So, I stuck a mic in front of him and he played it. After much cajolling, I forced Peter Miller out of retirement and he did an excellent job on the cello parts.
