Dutch-to-English translation by Dik de Heer as:
JOHN HOSKINSON
Though a debutant, John Hoskinson has already built quite a following for himself. In California - Hoskinson lives in L.A. - he's received favorable reviews for Miscellaneous Heathen (Kaopeoths) and the British magazine Uncut held nothing back in its praise either : no less than four stars. A drawback may be the fact that Hoskinson has a Greek (!) record company. Never mind though, for John Hoskinson has delivered a very nice collection of cheerful, sunny and sometimes melancholy pop songs. Hoskinson's pleasantly graceful pop shows only sporadic roots influences and in those cases we should think of Peter Case just after his Plimsouls period or of a light version of The Gin Blossoms. Instrumentation is kept simple, with bass, drums, piano and guitar, which suits the predominantly medium-tempo songs well ; no unnecessary baggage. On the more autumnal songs like "It's Not My Place" and "Time Will Tell", Hoskinson makes quite an impression and “Going Nowhere” is a delightful Byrds-type country rock. Already Miscellaneous Heathen makes you long for the follow-up.
