L.A. singer-songwriter hits right note with superb follow-up
Reviewed by Brian Kielty / Liverpool, England on September 29, 2007
Building upon the strong foundations of his excellent debut album 'Miscellaneous Heathen', Hoskinson moves on to another level in term of his songwriting craft and performance. Not afraid to wear his influences on his sleeve (Beatles, Crowded House, Zombies etc) he is mastering the art of instantly 'catchy' melodic, pop-tinged songs. Standout track tracks include the Jellyfishesque "Miss Rejection", the Phil Spector influenced "Just Think It Over", the jaunty "Only One By Your Side" and the (down the pub) singlalong album closer "We Can Never Be Friends". Pancho Fantatastic has 13 gems which will appeal to fans of Neil Finn/Crowded House and those appreciative of the "powerpop" genre.
