We Can Never Be Friends

This song was hard to figure out. Brian, Soupy and I had recorded a full band version that was good but a bit too slow. Joe also felt it would be better for my voice if we moved it from the key of G into F. So eventually I just recorded a live acoustic version in Joe's bedroom. Eugene and I added a couple more acoustics to give it a loose, sitting around the campfire feel and then I invited some friends over to record the crowd vocal at the end.
 
The crowd vocal was recorded in our living room in the middle of the day. It was interesting to watch it develop. At first everyone was a little self-conscious and timid as they were aware that neighbors walking by could see and hear them. But after a few takes things loosened up considerably and it started sounding less like a Presbyterian church choir and more like a bunch of drunks in a bar.
