Eugene Edwards, "Telling That Lie Again," from My Favorite Revolution

While power pop comes and goes, and we cover a lot of it at PCP, this debut by LA singer/songwriter Eugene Edwards towers over the pack. For one thing, the songwriting is superb, trading on old influences like Ian Gomm and Elvis Costello, but with a fresh, youthful twist. But it's also played with a fiery intensity and focused dynamics, making My Favorite Revolution a cinch for discerning 2004 Top Ten critics lists everywhere.
