Eugene Edwards: My Favorite Revolution
We’ve all heard it before: straight up pop/rock music that you can’t help but fall in love with upon first listen and keep coming back to. It’s simple and nothing all that new, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, just improve on it even more (something that this album certainly succeeds at). Eugene Edwards provides Phantom Planet and almost Tom Petty-esque guitar and harmonized choruses that get you into the music before you’re even halfway through the CD. The vocals are not only extremely impressive but refreshing as well, and the guitar is upbeat and particularly well written, creating an all-around brilliant set of tracks.
A complaint that can be had is the fact that almost half the songs fall under or not much above three minutes, but then again that just says the music is enjoyable enough that the listener wishes it were longer. Overall, My Favorite Revolution is an incredibly fun album that earns its place in any CD player and makes it very hard to take it out. It has enormous potential to stand out in its genre, a feat that is becoming increasingly rare in this music classification.
